Image 1-Large nodules of hyalinized eosinophilic material are deposited in the soft tissue.

Image 2-Higher magnification reveals cracking of the nodules and a sparse chronic inflammatory cell infiltrate.

Image 3-Highest magnification reveals giant cells surrounding many of the nodules.

Image 4-In other foci, metaplastic bone formation is noted.

Case Study

This is a 64 year old woman with a long history of CREST syndrome. She presents with a mass lesion in her left leg of several years duration. She has noted a recent increase in size with some pain.
